Polish Sandwich

Makes 2 sandwiches.

  • 4 slices of Jewish (or dark) rye bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 8 slices swiss cheese
  • 2 large polish sausages or 1 beef smoked sausage, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 large dill pickles, sliced
  • 1 cup sauerkraut, drained well

Butter one side of each piece of bread and place butter side down into a preheated frying pan over medium heat. After the bread is in the pan, lay two slices of cheese on each slice of bread. Remove the bread slices from the pan when the bottoms turn light golden brown and toasty. Set aside.

Place the sausage into the pan. When the sausage pieces are hot and browned on both sides, divide them onto two slices of the toasted bread.

*If using uncooked sausage, be sure to cook it completely first.

Top the sausage on each of the sandwiches with some sauerkraut, mustard, and sliced pickles. Top each with the second slice of bread.

Use keto bread for a low-carb option.
