A Family Tree Christmas Tree. Over the years, I have decorated many trees for our state fair competition. I started in 1993, the year Dotter was born, and after years of watching momma bring home ribbons, Dotter finally spoke up in 2007 and said, “My turn.”
She decided to go with the theme “Family Tree”. We spent hours looking through old photos and framing them with pretty papers and ribbons. We adorned the bottom of the tree with some family recipes and my grandmother’s old extracts and spices.
Not only did she place second on her first tree, she learned so much about our family history.
This tree really reminded us of why family projects like this one are important. I mean, the prize money is pretty fun to get, but it’s more about the shared time, funny stories, and closeness the project brings.
It’s been a long time since we worked on this together, but I am sharing with you because it’s such a great idea for a Christmas Tree that truly will bring the family together.
